The Church Library
Library Corner Everyone knows that the Trinity Church Library has a great collection of religious books, an awesome children’s section, fiction, reference materials, audio cassettes, and videotapes…but did you know that there is a section devoted just to topics for or about women?
There’s something for everyone in the Women’s Section, from novels that tell the stories of women of the Old Testament to daily devotionals that help you start each day with inspiration. The titles and genres vary widely so you’re sure to find something that suits you.
Here’s just a sampling of the titles you’ll find in the Women’s Section:
All Those Mothers at the Manger by Norma Faber Bad Girls of the Bible by Liz Curtis Higgs Women of Faith and Spirit by Margaret Wold The Women of Faith Daily Devotional by Patsy Clarimont, et al Helpmates, Harlots, and Heroes by Alice Ogden Bellis Sarah by Marek Halter
Sarah, is the first novel in “The Canaan Trilogy” (a series that also tells the stories of Zipporah, the Wife of Moses, and Lilah). Sarah, of course, was the wife of Abraham, but before she was Sarah, she was Sarai. Born into a world of great privilege in the Sumerian city-state of Ur, Sarai, a great beauty, would grow up to be the most revered woman of her civilization. As high priestess to the goddess Ishtar, Sarai was adored and feared by all who came before her—even her noble family. But she gave up her exalted life to join the tribe of a poor nomad called Abram, and to follow the one true God.
Check out the Women’s Section of the Trinity Library during the next coffee hour. You’ll find the section on the left side of the library, next to the computer desk and under the fire alarm.
Happy Reading!
PW Book Group By Dottie Dunfee
Please look at our list of upcoming books for discussion and plan to join us. We are a small, friendly group that gets together to talk about books in an informal setting. We meet on the last Thursday of the months of November, January, March and May.
January 31 Beneath the Dust by D. B. Barrat Another look into America’s past--this time the book depicts dust bowl struggles in the 1930s. It received rave reviews from readers on amazon.com.
March 27 Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy Many of us read this in college. We’re anxious to see whether our views on it have changed.
May 29 Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen This book is currently on the bestseller list and centers around both a nursing home and a circus!
General InformationThere are a total of about 3126 books and videos on file. We use the Dewey Decimal System method to find the books on the shelf, same as school and public libraries.
On the third Sunday of every month, a Story Time is presented in the Library for children. Elaine Hoganson schedules volunteer readers from the church congregation.
Children’s Parental Guidance (PG) books are on top of the J section.
Circulation Policy is posted on the Bulletin Board. Books circulate for one month (due one month from today) and Reference books and Videos each circulate for two weeks. The suggested limit for children is one video and two books per child. The charge for a lost book is the replacement cost and on children’s books, it is up to $10. The members of the Library Committee are Bernice Ahlquist, Florence Mognet, Jeanne Wilfon, Susan Bastnagel, Betty Donahue, Elaine Hoganson, and Nancy Bennett. |
